May presented our reviewers with quite a variety of music. There was some little known, Baroque, unaccompanied violin music by newcomer Augusta McKay Lodge; new double guitar concertos written by Leo Brouwer and Paulo Bellinati; the unjustly ignored music of Grazyna Bacewicz and Louise Farrenc; horn concertos dating from the period just before Mozart's concertos; the surprisingly revealing sound of Ravel's music on period instruments; and Vyacheslav Gryaznov reviving the practice of arranging orchestral music for solo piano in a way that conveys the full orchestral effect.
