New Classical Reviews, March 2017

Our classical music reviewers seemed to be "hearing double" in March. There was a pair of recordings of Liszt's Faust Symphony, one for orchestra and one transcribed for piano; and two albums each by conductors Sir Mark Elder (choral works by Elgar and Bax, and new music by Tarik O'Regan) and Andrés Orozco-Estrada (Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 and Strauss tone poems). He of the double-name, Lang Lang, performed a new piano concerto by film composer Howard Shore, while a new recording of Bartók's Sonata for two pianos and percussion featured Cédric Tiberghien and François-Frédéric Guy.
