In March, our reviewers found new recordings of favorite music of the great composers, plus masterworks that aren't heard as often as they used to be. Among the latter are Copland's ballets, on the first of a new series from Chandos featuring the John Wilson Orchestra, and Elgar's Symphony No. 1 conducted by Daniel Barenboim. Among the former are Korngold and Brahms violin concertos, by Vilde Frang and Janine Jansen respectively, and Chopin performed both by Yundi and by Ji Liu. The Doric String Quartet playing Haydn's Op. 76 quartets, Neeme Jarvi conducting The Carnival of the Animals, and Bob Chilcott's folk song arrangements are just a few of the other reviews this month.
