Although studio recordings can be great, many people say hearing artists in person is even better. This month several new releases capture the excitement and energy of live performances for you. For many years now, Martha Argerich has hosted a chamber music festival near her home in Switzerland, and last year's recitals can be found on the two-disc set, Live from Lugano 2015. Another festival from 2015, the Edinburgh International Festival, found Richard Egarr conducting a historically informed concert version of Gilbert and Sullivan's HMS Pinafore. Other live recordings include Andris Nelsons leading the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Shostakovich, Valery Gergiev and the London Symphony Orchestra in Scriabin, and Marek Janowski's complete Ring Cycle, recorded in concert in 2012 and 2013.
