New Classical Reviews, June 2015

Artists who tickle the ivories tickled the fancy of our classical reviewers in June. Keyboard music by composers ranging from Alessandro and Domenico Scarlatti, to Haydn, to Rachmaninov, and to Terry Riley was found, performed by artists such as Mahan Esfanhani, Tzimon Barto, Olivier Cavé, Leon McCawley, and the duet team ZOFO. There were piano improvisations by Gabriela Montero and Keith Jarrett in the mix as well. June was also the 150th anniversary of the birth of Danish composer Carl Nielsen, which was celebrated by new renditions of his symphonies and concertos featuring Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic, and another set of the symphonies with John Storgårds and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.
