New Classical Reviews, April 2015

Last month, our classical reviewers discovered a plethora of symphonies among the newest releases. There were the oft-heard symphonies of Bruckner, Mahler, Tchaikovsky, Dvorák, and Berlioz, but there were the much-less frequently encountered symphonies of Havergal Brian, William Walton, and Alfred Schnittke, and the practically unknown ones of Hans Gal. For vocal music enthusiasts, there's a new album by Philippe Jaroussky, who "could sing a list of URLs and sound pretty good." There is also a good supply of contemporary music for violin: Tim Fain giving the world premiere of Phillip Glass's Partita; Angèle Dubeau playing Einaudi; and Kerenza Peacock in new works by Oliver Davis.
