Not many people heard it, but those who did are probably still wondering why
Stuart Price never put out another record after
Les Rythmes Digitales'
Darkdancer, one of 1999's most sparkling dance albums. Shot through with acid house, synth-pop and freestyle -- plus guest spots for a pair of '80s doyennes,
Shannon and
Nik Kershaw -- the record was pretty forward-thinking in its retro flair ('80s retro, that is). Those who study their liner notes (or allmusic.com) may realize that Price did move on to a similarly '80s-fixated trio named
Zoot Woman for two solid albums in the early 2000s.
Well, turns out Price has made more money (although not more fame) as a producer and remixer, helming tracks by everyone from
Seal to
Madonna, and giving a little taste of the '80s to those who need it -- whether they were around the first time or not. (We're looking at you
Killers.)
Price has also begun lining his mantle with Grammy awards for remixing, and tagged along on two of Madonna's tours (the second as Musical Director). See below for his greatest hits, scattered across multiple groups, aliases, and remixing pseudonyms. (How ironic is it that he pilfered one of his aliases, Thin White Duke, from that master of disguise,
David Bowie?)
