AllMusic's Favorite Reissues of 2010

The AllMusic editors are recapping the year in recordings with well over a dozen posts in which they present their favorites within specific genres and styles. Right now, on the AllMusic Blog, they provide a list of their favorite reissues of 2010. If the reissues of 2010 are dominated by splashy deluxe editions, there’s a reason for that: they continue to serve up surprises, even on albums as recent as Queens of the Stone Age's Rated R, whose second disc contains a live performance that illustrates just how powerful the band is. Perhaps it is not quite as revelatory as Bruce Springsteen's The Promise, the two discs of Darkness on the Edge of Town outtakes, but deluxe reissues are meant to dig deeper into accepted classics and the best of 2010's deluxe reissues -- whether it was the Rolling Stones' celebrated expansion of Exile on Main St. or R.E.M.'s Fables of the Reconstruction, blessed with the addition of a live run-through of the album -- did just that. Add to that archival releases -- collections of Kris Kristofferson demos and Moby Grape live performances -- and a reissue of the Apple Records catalog, and 2010 provided plenty of enjoyable blasts from the past.
