Blues singer
Reverend Shawn Amos sounds enthusiastic and invigorated on
The Reverend Shawn Amos Loves You, his first full-length album in 10 years. His previous album,
Thank You Shirl-ee May, a tribute to his mother, earned four stars from editor Mark Deming, which he called a "creative triumph." Now on his latest, Amos is still brimming with confidence, combining his bluesy vocal with sharp electric guitars and some well-placed horns and piano. And keep your ears open for a guest spot from the
Blind Boys of Alabama on the album's opening track.
"Every road I’ve traveled has led me here," Amos wrote. "I found myself with the blues. This music is really the most direct connection I’ve found to my heart and my spirit. It’s also brought me the most joy I’ve ever had making music. The blues has been relegated the outskirts of the pop culture playground. I hope this album in some small way helps to bring it closer to the main stage.”
The Reverend Shawn Amos Loves You is due out on October 16 and can be pre-ordered on
physical formats and
through iTunes.
