Album Premiere: The Midnight Pine, self-titled

​San Diego band the Midnight Pines gleefully plays around in the darkness on its self-titled third album, anchored by the confident vocals of Shelbi Bennett. "Thunder and Lightning" shows off her range, while a simple but effective guitar riff slices through the drums, organ and horns, while a song like "Fortress" displays the band's softer side, placing her voice alongside acoustic guitar and what sounds like hands slapping a leg in place of percussion. The Midnight Pine is out October 7 on The Redwoods Music.
