Brazilian art-rock band Cambriana draws on sounds from home while looking across the South Atlantic to take additional inspiration from
Fela Kuti and the world of
Afro-beat on
Manaus Vidaloka, the band's first full-length album in six years. It all comes together on tracks like "Holy Garden," "Big Surf" and "Manaus," which are imbued with both wild exuberance and attention-grabbing unpredictability. The album sessions were enhanced by a trip down the Amazon taken by band members Luis Calil and Pedro Falcão, during which they created field recordings of the rainforest and later blended them in with the studio tracks to create a transporting, surprising listen.
Manaus Vidaloka is due out on August 24.
Cambriana's music is available to
order on iTunes and
