Passionate soul screamer Barrence Whitfield returns with Soul Flowers of Titan, a powerful set of wild and enthusiastic tunes. The album's dozen tracks celebrate the direct, no-frills ethos of classic R&B, powered by Whitfield's forceful bellows and anchored by his rock-solid band, the Savages, which delivers compact, effective saxophone and guitar solos in the rare moments that Whitfield comes up for air. As Mark Deming noted in his four-star review of Whitfield's 2015 album Under the Savage Sky, "Whitfield has dedicated his life to reminding people that rock & roll and rhythm & blues are not separate but equal institutions, but healthy branches of the same tree," a sentiment that certainly carries through the high-energy, celebratory Soul Flowers of Titan.

Soul Flowers of Titan is due out March 2 and is available for preorder. Barrence Whitfield & the Savages currently have live dates booked into June.
