San Francisco-based contemporary blues pianist Wendy DeWitt cut her teeth playing boogie-woogie at local house parties before forming her backing band Blue Saloon during the late '80s. Their debut CD Wendy DeWitt and Blue Saloon appeared in 1993; three years later, the group -- now comprising guitarist Steve Freund (a veteran of the Chicago blues scene who previously backed Sunnyland Slim), bassist Burton Winn and drummer Tracy Rose -- returned with Soul Shake. You're Not There followed in 1998; additionally, DeWitt frequently performed with Hank Ballard.
