Via Negromonte has had important works in her resumé, both nationally and internationally. She has been working in theater (as an actress and also as a playwright), cinema (in several films, including Francis Ford Coppola's Cotton Club), TV, dance, and music shows. Her professional debut was on Broadway in 1979 as Anita in West Side Story. Other musicals followed and she toured the U.S. and Europe. Returning to Brazil in 1987, she recorded two albums that brought her the Sharp prize as revelation singer for the song "Preconceito." Negromonte was also awarded as an actress at the 22nd Festival Guarnicé (of São Luiz do Maranhão) for her performance in the film O Auto de Leidiana (Rosemberg Cariri).
