After the 1993 breakup of the Singing Spoons, Mike Coleman (bass) and Chris Gissendanner (guitar/vocals) got together with drummer Kelly Shane to form Ultraboy. Bringing on their hybrid of Husker Du influenced noise pop and occasional improve jams to their native of Tallahassee, FL, AAJ Records released the bands debut 7", Jellymint, in 1993 followed by their split EP with Gruel that same year. After 1994's 10" EP Jelvis, Ultraboy called it quits with Coleman moving onto Bacon Ray and Invaders From a Forbidden Planet, Shane getting together the New Albanian Riots, while Gissendanner went back to school to work on his PhD.
