Artist Biography by

This all-female ceilidh outfit was conceived in 1990 by members of various other UK folk bands, notably the Old Swan Band and Blowzabella, with the original line-up comprising Jackie Allen (fiddle, saxophone), Jo Freya (b. Jo-Anne Rachel Newmarch Fraser, 4 December 1960, St. Albans, Hertfordshire, England; saxophone, clarinet, whistle), Fi Fraser (b. Fiona Mildred Newmarch Fraser, 31 July 1959, Barnet, Hertfordshire, England; fiddle, clarinet), Heather Vigar (keyboards, flute), Becky Palmer (saxophone), and Kathryn Locke (cello). Drawing on the English and European folk tradition and including a smattering of original material, the group proved highly popular on the live circuit and released two fine albums on the No Masters label in the mid-90s.

After a five-year hiatus Token Women reunited, with the Frasers, Allen and Vigar (now known as Heather Vigar-Horsley) joined by Alice Kinloch (tuba, trombone, euphonium) and Jo May (percussion) on the 2001 recording Elsa.
