Almost anything one might say about the Speckulations is more than likely to be pure...speculation. Virtually nothing is known today about the quintet, except that they came from the area around Winston-Salem, N.C. Their line-up included David Hunt (vocals), Robert Hubbs (bass, vocals), Floyd Green (guitar, vocals), Tony Myers (keyboards), and Harold Johnson (drums, vocals). Their repertory, based on the recorded evidence, consisted primarily of rock 'n roll and r&b standards. Their influences included James Brown and Sam Cooke, mostly by way of the Animals et al, but they also played surf instrumentals. The group was formed sometime in the mid-'60s and, so far as anyone knows, didn't survive past 1967.
