Influenced by the noisy post-punk from San Diego and Chicago math-rock, The Plan got together in the spring of 1999 as a side project for North of America vocalist/guitarist Michael Catano and Led By Regret bassist Mackenzie Ogilvie. After guitarist David Harrison and drummer Jon Hutt were recruited, the quartet played around their Halifax hometown and quickly signed to Matlock Records. Lance Purcell eventually took drum positions in time to release the Plan's first album, This Time Is not This Place, in 2000.
