Their one and only release was a single, "We Are the Moles, " but it turned out that they weren't. They were Simon Dupree & the Big Sound, the late 1960's incarnation of Phil, Derek, and Ray Shulman (and their bandmates Tony Randell and Pete O'Flaherty), in the years before they jumped into prog-rock as Gentle Giant. The alias lasted for one single, "We Are The Moles," which is a highly regarded piece of psychedelia. The precise reason why it was released under the alias remains unknown, and given the Shulman brothers' reticence about discussing Gentle Giant, one imagines being greeted by a fusilade of bullets on inquiring about "The Moles." The mystery remains.
