Self-described as "Woody Allen meets Syd Barrett," the Hairs are the musical outlet for Brooklyn-based musician Kevin Alvir. Since 2011, Alvir and occasional collaborators Jacob Sloan and Steve Tarkington have dished out a slew of colorful D.I.Y. freak pop releases for indie labels like Magic Marker, WeePop!, and Odd Box, taking inspiration from the golden age of Flying Nun and K Records bands. Alvir, also an illustrator, adds his own quirky visual element to the Hairs brand with his bizarre portraiture and graphics. Prior to 2016, the bulk of their output was in the form of singles and EPs. Their debut full-length, While I Hated Life, Barbarian, was released by Ohio-based indie Old Flame Records in the summer of that year.
