Miami-based the Baboons started composing their own music in the early '90s while playing at small venues in South Beach. In 1999, the band released its first album, called Evolution, getting positive reviews in the local media. Combining the Baboons' musicians' hard rock and funky influences with Latin dance grooves, the six-piece act recorded Global Gumbo in the year 2000. Recorded at Miami's Red Door Studios, the group's third album, Spanglish, arrived over a decade and a half later, in 2016.
