A Japanese male "idol" duo under the leadership of impresario Johnny & Associates, Tackey & Tsubasa (Hideaki Takizawa and Tsubasa Imai) were originally backup dancers for other groups in the Johnny "stable" of pop groups before finally getting solo spots on some of the package tours run by the management company. In 2002, the plan was to introduce them officially as solo artists, but fans began a letter-writing campaign and -- due to many popular duets sung by the two at some Johnny & Associates-sponsored shows -- it was determined that the two should be promoted as a group. Their debut mini-album, Hatachi, was released in September of 2002, and their first full-length followed in 2004. The duo released a number of singles, most of which were number one hits, as well as hosting television variety shows and acting in dramatic shows.
