b. c.1892, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, d. 22 December 1963, Chicago, Illinois, USA. Early in his career Palmer played guitar and trumpet but eventually settled on trombone. In the early years of the century he worked mostly in his home town. By 1920 he had moved to Chicago where he recorded with, among others, Jelly Roll Morton, Johnny Dodds and Jimmy Blythe. In the early 30s he quit full-time music but, according to jazz musician and writer John Chilton, he continued to teach into the 50s.
