Roberta Gordon has performed and recorded with the Gordons family band since the '70s. The group performs old-timey Appalachian and bluegrass material, including of course some heartfelt gospel, and has been compared favorably with masters of these genres such as the Carter Family. Her main instrument is autoharp, but Gordon also sings both lead and background. On 2002's Time Will Tell Our Story, her responsibilities expanded to include production and artwork details.
The Gordons made their recording debut in 1976 with the delightful Southern Illinois Bluegrass, following many firm old-time dictates including using song and album titles to provide locational data. This LP and quite a few others in the group's catalog were released on Reception, a record label and not an event where wine and cheese are passed out. Other family members involved in the project include guitarist and singer Gary Gordon and drummer Noah Gordon.
