UK ambient techno duo based in Yeovil, Somerset featuring former DJ Mark Pritchard and one-time Aphex Twin collaborator Tom Middleton (b. Cornwall, England). The duo set up their own label, Evolution, though their debut album came via the Infonet Records imprint. Their work blended dark hardcore with ambient strains, augmented by multi-media presentations drawing in environmental sounds like the ticking of clocks. Their sole long-player, 1993’s A Collection Of Short Stories, arrived with a book of accompanying essays written by their friend Dominic Fripp. Some of the text was designed to be read in-sync with the music. The tracks themselves betrayed a strong musical devotion to the likes of Peter Gabriel, Jean-Michel Jarre and even the Smiths, as well as the more anticipated Detroit techno and Eurobeat. The Auto Reload EP later in the year continued to cement the duo’s profile with the more demanding club-goers. They went on to record under several different monikers, including Global Communication, Link, E621 and Rebos, gracefully retiring the Reload name.
