The bagpipes have been transformed into a vehicle for musical exploration by French bagpiper and vocalist Raphael Thiery. Dedicated to expanding on the French/Celtic bagpipe traditions, he's sought a variety of outlets for his discoveries. He formed Quintet of Bagpipes with fellow bagpipers Robert Amyot, Jean Blanchard, and Eric Montbel, and percussionist Max Di Napoli, to perform an eclectic, polyphonic repertoire. Together with diatonic accordion and keyboards player Christopher Raillard, he formed Faubourg De Boignard to perform a mixture of traditional French/Celtic melodies, percussive rhythm, and stream-of-consciousness poetry.
