Pimpa Pornsiri first drew the attention of Thai music fans in 1985, with her hit single "Nam Da Mia Saud," which heralded the arrival of luk thung prayuk or "applied luk thung." The application, in this instance, involved adding liberal elements of Mor lam, the musical style that had until that time been vying with luk thung for musical dominance in Thailand. Pornsiri, likewise, drew on a variety of Western instruments, including bass guitar and drum kit, to enhance her traditional sound. Pornsiri's synthesis proved highly successful, as is indicated by the immense entourage of supporting staff (133) she started to hire to support her sell-out tours. She has enjoyed many hits since her first, in 1985.
