One of the most successful Latin songsmiths of all time, Omar Alfanno is just now reaching the peak of his popularity. Although he recorded several impressive albums, including Cosas De Barrio...Callejon Y Esquina, Cuerpos Al Calor, Joe De Barrio, and En Torno Al Amor, Alfanno has many greatest marks as a songwriter. He received a Latin Billboard music award for Songwriter of the Year and an El Premio/ASCAP award for Composer of the Year in 2001. His songs received El Premio/ASCAP awards in both the salsa and merengue categories. His tune "A Puro Dolor" was named Super Song of the Year, while "Son by Son" was named Top Pop/Balada song. Since achieving his first hit with Willie Colón's recording of his tune "El Gran Varon" in 1988, Alfanno has composed one hit after another for such Latin artists as Tony Vega, Luis Enrique, Melina Leon, and Jerry Rivera. His tunes played a major role in the early success of Gilberto Santa Rosa and Marc Anthony. Signed by Sony in March 2001, Alfanno recently built a new studio and launched a production company, Dreams Factory, in his adopted home of Miami.
