Accomplished pianist, accompanied many of the biggest stars of the Golden Age of Brazilian song, both live and in recordings. Nonô also recorded solo albums, was Noel Rosa's partner (as a composer), and was recorded by many stars, including Rosa himself. Nonô was from a musical family from which his nephews Ciro Monteiro, Moacir Peixoto, Araquém Peixoto, and Caubi Peixoto were born. At nine he was already a professional pianist. In 1929, he joined the orchestra of the recording company Brunswick (led by J. Tomás). Nonô was also a member of Bambas do Estácio, Gente Boa, Gente do Choro, Orquestra Copacabana, and others, recording hundreds of albums with those orchestras/groups as accompanists for singers. Around 1932, he became the favorite accompanist of the stars of those times, like Francisco Alves, Sílvio Caldas, and Mário Reis. At the Programa Casé, in the Rádio Philips, accompanied other stars like Luís Barbosa, Noel Rosa, and Marília Batista. In 1932, he toured Porto Alegre RS with Noel Rosa, Mário Reis, and Francisco Alves, writing the samba "Vitória" with Rosa, which was recorded by Sílvio Caldas through Victor in 1933. In 1932, he recorded his choro "Uma Farra em Campo Grande" solo for Columbia. Nono recorded with Mário Reis, Francisco Alves, Noel Rosa (who recorded Nonô's samba "Arranjei um Fraseado"), Sílvio Caldas, Luís Barbosa, and many others.
As a composer, Nonô wrote "Perto do Céu" (with Francisco Matoso), recorded by Silvinha Melo for Philips in 1935; "Vai-te Embora" (with Francisco Matoso), recorded by Mário Reis in 1936; the valses "Cigana" (with Paulo Roberto), recorded by Sílvio Caldas for Odeon in 1937 and "Jardim das Flores Raras" (with Francisco Matoso), recorded by Roberto Paiva for Odeon in 1938. In 1957, pianist Fats Elpídio recorded the LP Recordando Nonô for Victor.
