Dominican Nini Caffaro (born Erasmo Alfonso Cáffaro Durán) began singing gospel while attending elementary school. "Violeta" and "Ayudame A Olvidarte" became his first popular music hits in 1962. After teaming up with local arranger/composer Rafael Solano in 1968, Nini Caffaro came in first place at the first Dominican Popular Music Festival with a song called "Por Amor." The success of his music allowed him to start touring locally and worldwide soon after.
