Affectionately known as "Pepe," Ndombe Opetum had been lead vocalist of Afrisa International when he and horn player Empopo Loway were invited to join Franco's band, TPOK Jazz. Opetum made his impact felt almost immediately. In addition to successfully replacing influential vocalist Sam Mangwana, he composed two songs -- "Anjela" and "Tawaba" -- for Franco's final album.
