The alternative country band Moonlight Rodeo grew out of jams held in living rooms in San Rafael CA in 1994, including such players as Jesse Lee Kincaid (a founding member of Rising Sons), Kurt Huget, and Mayne Smith. Later joining the ensemble was David Getz (a founding member of Big Brother & the Holding Company). Eventually, the lineup solidified with Huget on guitar and vocals, Lauralee Brown on vocals, Jon Mitguard on pedal steel guitar, Tony Bowers on bass, and Mike Spinrad on drums. A debut album was released in 2000, followed in 2003 by Rio Lindo, which included guest appearances by Kincaid, Smith, Getz, Bruce Barthol (a founding member of Country Joe & the Fish), and Robert Hunter, the Grateful Dead lyricist, who also supplied words to five songs.
