Reimer Eising (who often uses the pseudonym Kettel), studied the piano as a youngster and found that he could "see music as a concrete thing inside his head." He has a thorough grounding in classical music, and at one point wrote pieces for piano to satisfy his creative urges. He still listens to classical music recreationally, but his performing interests were inspired by encounters with the early recorded work of Autechre and Orbital. Eising feels that he is still in the process of discovering and developing his own style, and he has moved through simple loop-based IDM to his present interest in more complex techno-pop. His quietly subversive aspiration is to create melodic, rhythmically sophisticated, and complex electronic music that would still be embraced by the MTV generation. To further that end, he hopes to be integrating vocals into his new work.
