Formed by Candeia in the early '60s as part of a movement for the revitalization of the traditional samba sponsored by the Center for Popular Culture (CPC) of the National Student League (UNE), Os Mensageiros do Samba recorded only one LP (Mensageiros do Samba). All compositions were by Candeia and Picolino. In 1964, the group started to perform in Cartola's historic bar Zicartola. Os Mensageiros do Samba was dissolved around 1966 with Picolino departing for his Trio ABC da Portela (together with Noca da Portela and Colombo) and Candeia for his solo career.
