Marilyn Harris

b. USA. Although she has spent more than two decades in popular music, Harris remains relatively little known. Most of her work was in the anonymity of radio and television studios where she composed and arranged and also sang backing to other singers. Although pressure of work kept her from lighting her own fire, she began her own album in 1983, completing it 10 years later. Writing all the songs, either alone or in collaboration, she showed an awareness of the long tradition of pop as well as contemporary attitudes in music making. There are also occasional hints of the blues beneath her sophisticated style. Her voice is clear and melodious and she is also a gifted keyboards player, accompanying herself with skill and verve.
