In the mid-'60s, Rocky Howell, Peter Pandalino and Rick Riddell played together in the high school group the Shan-de-leers. They added David Lodge in 1967 and changed their name to Major Hoople's Boarding House. The band worked the club circuit around their native Ontario until 1975, when "I'm Running After You" became a national hit. Major Hoople's Boarding House became simply Boarding House when James Leroy joined in 1976, though he died three years later. The band released The Hooples Album in 1981 and The New Adventures of Hooples in 1986. A new version of the band with Howell as leader played for a while in 1988.
