Retro-swingers the League of Decency formed in Atlanta in 1984 around the nucleus of singer/bassist Tommy Dean and saxophonist Bill McPherson; although McPherson later left the group, the gravelly-voiced Dean remained the group's frontman throughout its career. The League's roster changed regularly, including pianist Mike Ewbank, trombonist Earl Ford, saxophonists Randy Hunter and Ted Dortch, guitarist Billy Wilkie, bassist Jean-Marc Porson, and drummer Tim Nash at the time of their 1995 debut, Swing, Soul & Rock 'n' Roll. A streamlined seven-piece lineup resurfaced in 1999 with Shake, Rattle & Roll.
