b. Louis Madison, 19 February 1899, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, d. September 1948, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Madison began playing trumpet, having first played drums in the waifs home band that saw the musical beginnings of Louis Armstrong and Kid Rena. As he gained proficiency as a trumpet player, Madison worked with several New Orleans brass and marching bands. He continued these activities through the 30s and in the early 40s played in bands led by Bunk Johnson. Like so many of his generation of New Orleans musicians, Madison was able to play music only as a sideline to full-time work in other things. He played with drive and vigorous attack.
