Kevin Puts is an American composer. Raised in St. Louis, Missouri and Alma, Michigan, Puts attended the Eastman School of Music, where he received his bachelor's degree and his doctorate, and Yale University, where he earned his master's degree. His teachers included Samuel Adler, Jacob Druckman, David Lang, Christopher Rouse, Joseph Schwantner, and Martin Bresnick. From 1999 to 2005, Puts was a professor of composition at the University of Texas in Austin. He has received important commissions and performances from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the American Composers Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Institute for American Music, the New York Youth Symphony, the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Kobe, and the National Symphony Orchestra.
