The Kerrville Folk Festival in Kerrville, TX, began in 1972 as a gathering of 13 performers who were friends. The festival has been going strong into the 21st century and continues to garner rave reviews while drawing acclaimed musicians in the folk, country, bluegrass, and alternative music fields. The festival lasts 18 days or so, and attendees can often enjoy music that goes on long into the night after the main shows are over. In 2008 the festival was acquired by the nonprofit Texas Folk Music Foundation, enabling the event to receive tax-deductible donations and public support.
