Kaunda is, of course, better known as the president of Zambia from independence in 1964 up until 1991, when he was defeated in an election owing to a series of poor political moves. He was an amateur musician who, during the struggle for independence, used music as an aid to nationalist political goals. He recorded a song in 1989 called "Tiende Pamodzi" urging hard work and discipline. A remixed club version was released in London.
