b. 1939, Chicago, Illinois, USA. Layne had only one US Top 20 single in 1957, ‘Your Wild Heart’, and never returned to the charts. Managed by her mother, she auditioned for Mercury in Chicago. Given a song that had already been recorded by the Poni-Tails, ‘Your Wild Heart’ was released in early 1957 and reached number 20. With a dynamic voice comparable to Brenda Lee’s, great things were predicted for Layne, but her mother would not let her tour or promote her recordings, and by 1961 her career was over.
