Is Jim Hill the heaviest mixer, producer, and engineer in the business? Well, he did make use of an anvil at a Stan Ridgway session. Perhaps the talented Hill has a sideline making horseshoes, although from a gander at his credits it would be hard to imagine the man needing additional work. And anvil notwithstanding, Hill has kept pace with technological developments since the days of roots rock bands such as the Blasters and the laid-back country-rock of Poco, both groups that held forth as Hill twirled the mixer knobs. He has been credited with electronic score supervision as well as drum programming, both the type of job descriptions that would seem like pure science fiction to an engineer from an earlier era.
