Jeff Monn was the lead singer of the Third Bardo, who made a belatedly recognized garage rock classic on their 1967 single "I'm Five Years Ahead of My Time," which is on the Nuggets box set anthology of 1960s garage rock. It's far less known that Monn went on to a brief solo career, releasing Reality on Vanguard in 1968. After the Third Bardo split, Monn performed as an unaccompanied solo guitarist and singer, playing an electric guitar. Reality is a quite odd relic of its time, combining Monn's rather raw folk-rock with baroque orchestration by arranger/conductor Peter Schickele, better known as P.D.Q. Bach. Although fitfully appealing, this wasn't the ideal mixture, and Monn's songs were only okay. Monn recorded another solo album under the name Chris Moon for CBS/Kinetic in 1970.
