b. USA. Herman Waldman And His Orchestra formed in Texas, USA, in the late 20s. The line-up included Rex Preis, Bill Clemens, Ken Sweitzer, Jim Segars, Bob Harris, Tink Nauratal, Tom Blake, Vernon Mills, Barney Dodd, Reggie Kaughlin, Arnold Wadsworth and Jimmie Mann. From their base in Dallas they became one of the earliest and most popular of the dance bands working the south west states of America. Major hotel engagements at the Baker and Adolphus Hotels (Dallas), the Peabody (Memphis) and Muehlebach (Kansas City) ensued. While playing a one-night engagement in Beaumont, Texas, Waldman auditioned trumpet player Harry James. He passed with flying colours and took his first professional touring engagements with the orchestra. However, they could not contain his talent for long, and despite recording contracts with Bluebird Records and Brunswick Records, the orchestra broke up during the late 30s.
