Group $oall -- that's how it's spelled, "$oall" -- intended as a not-to-exact approximation of the world "soul" -- put out just one four-song EP in their native Holland in 1967. Dutch mid- '60s beat music was often known for being raw and morose, yet this EP (released on the small independent Drie Kronen label) was yet more primitive than much such music coming from the country. With the tentatively sung, strained vocals (perhaps an unavoidable consequence of singing in English rather than Dutch) and a brooding folksy tinge, the recordings were odd permutations of the British Invasion sound, and a little behind the rapidly changing trends as the mid- '60s changed into the late '60s. All four of the tracks from the EP, as well as four songs cut earlier in 1967 that weren't released at the time (including alternate versions of a couple of the numbers from the EP), were compiled for the 10" LP reissue By My Side on the Misty Lane label.
