b. 21 February 1956, Oakland, California, USA. Field began playing drums as a child, studying and working with local bands in California. Although he first attracted widespread attention after joining Count Basie’s band in the early 80s, he had already built a formidable reputation amongst fellow musicians. In addition to appearing on television in shows such as Saturday Night Live, The Merv Griffin Show and Frank Sinatra: A Man And His Music, he has written many arrangements for the Tonight Show orchestra.
