An expansive, hard-hitting, metal outfit, Boston's Gozu draw upon a deep well of influences, touching upon '60s psychedelia, fuzz-drenched '70s stoner riffs, and '90s grunge. Formed in 2007 by vocalist/guitarist Marc Gaffney, guitarist Doug Sherman, and drummer Barry Spillberg, Gozu previewed their hard-to-pin-down amalgam of groove metal and stoner rock with a 2008 seven-track EP, before adding bassist Jay Cannava to the fold. The quartet was then approached by Detroit-based independent Small Stone Records and got to work on its debut album, Locust Season, released in mid-2010.
