The Gifted are a religiously-motivated hip-hop trio from London, England, led by rapper Prince Gilbert Okyere. He had originally released a debut solo EP on his own GBR Recordings label, which introduced his advocacy of Christian ‘street ministry’. A debut album followed, credited to the Gifted and provocatively titled Transformation Of The Mind. Much of the interest surrounding its release could be attributed to the unusual presence of Christian imagery in a rap community now dominated by Muslim principles. Despite the record’s unorthodoxy within its own genre, there was little else about Transformation Of The Mind to distinguish the Gifted from other under-achieving UK rap acts of the period.
