The power base behind Feline is bass player and singer Grog, who first rose to prominence in 1994 when her first band, Flinch, won the Best Act award at that year’s In The City festival. However, after five singles the group collapsed, failing to deliver on their early promise. Grog enlisted former Flinch manager Drew Richards as her guitarist and set about writing a new cycle of songs. Initially envisaged as a solo project, Feline grew into a full group with the addition of guitarist Ted Garcia and drummer Steve Drew. Their demo provoked major label interest, leading to a contract with Chrysalis Records in 1997. Their debut single, an old-fashioned power pop song entitled ‘Just As You Are’, delivered further strong reviews. A 10-track debut album, Save Your Face, was completed in three weeks with Cure producer David M. Allen at the helm. By the time of the album’s release, Steve Drew had been replaced on drums by Mig.
